Autism
Overview
Autism is a serious brain disorder which is characterized by impaired social interaction and communication skills. Symptoms of Autism generally appears in the first three years of life. Till date there is no treatment for autism, but if diagnosed and treated early, the patience can be prevented from further disorder caused by it.
Types
Autism is known in different ways. Some people calls it Autistic disorder.
Some types of Astism are
Asperger Syndrome : Severe form of Austistic disorder.
Childhood Disintegrative Disorder
Rett Syndrome : A typical type of Autism which occur to women only.
Pervasive Developmental Disorder :
Symptoms
Autism can be categorized by various common symptoms. In social skill, poor eye contact, unable to resist or hold, preferring to play alone and other similar symptoms may occur. In area of contact : the child may not be able to converse or it is a late bloomer while talking. Behavioral issue like repetitive movements, sensitive to sound and light and disturbance by ritual development may also been seen.
Causes
The exact cause of the autism is still unknown. Some of the known cause includes genetic error, in which the DNA do not replicate properly. Children’s whose family history shows autism are more prone to be affected by it. There are numerous environmental factor which contributed to the development of the autism including virus and air pollutants. Some time immune system issue and delivery problems may also lead to autism.
Tests
With regular checkups doctor may diagnose the delay in the development of the children. Its diagnosis is very difficult due to varied nature of the disorder. Its diagnosis is done based on series of tests which includes test for child’s verbal, social and behavior skills. Although the autism develops under 18 months, it can be diagnoses until the children is reached to the age of 2-3 years.
Treatment
There is no cure for autism. If diagnosed early , therapies may be taken to improve the behavioral, social and verbal abilities. Anxiety and other severe problems may be avoided with medication.
